We went to visit the space again today (which is on w 25th st diagonally across from the westside market) and armed with flashlights we found even more space we had no idea about. We have a big loading dock, a 2 room loft with a bathroom, and a insanely huge basement all in addition to 1000 sq feet of store space.
We are looking for some crafters who need space to create their goods and have grown out of their kitchens. Contact me if you’re interested in being an inhouse crafter. We will also offer monthly memberships as well as day passes for people who don’t need as much. Details are vague I know, but as soon as we’re up and running we’ll let you know.
We’re also looking for crafters who are interested in being represented in our shop. The retail space will be exclusively handmade goods.
Here are some pictures of what we’re working with…

While shopping at oddmall yesterday I found an awesome vendor ( SpaceDog Studios) who makes journals. They are really awesome, they aren’t just blank paper instead you don’t know what you’re going to find. There are coloring book pages, mixed with maps, calendars, manuals, graphs, ledgers and whatever other paper she can find. I wasn’t sure what my daughter would do with it but I knew I had to buy her one.

After a few hours I looked in this notebook and it had become a treasure full of short stories, drawings, and little hilarious gems.

Get these for your kids. They kick lots of ass.

I came across the 3/50 Project today and I highly reccomend you all take a minute and go to their website. It’s all about supporting our local businesses and they break it down in terms everyone can understand. For example: If half the employed population spent $50.00 a month in locally owned independent businesses it would generate $42.6 BILLION DOLLARS in revenue.

Go visit their site, become a supporter. It’s all free and spread the word. If we all do our part maybe we can save our brick and mortars.

I’ve always been under the impression I am from another era. I should have been born in the 30’s because I am convinced I should have been a 50’s housewife. I found this awesome store on twitter of course.

Jen is a Clevelander with a passion for vintage. She has some of the cutest damn things ever for sale in her vintage shop on etsy. You can find her HERE.

Here are some of her finds…

Today jen and I went out to visit The Cranky Pressman in Salem, OH. We’ve both been interested in letterpress but never had the opportunity to learn. I contacted Keith Berger and asked about workshops and he graciously invited us to come to the studio and he’d show us around. We went to see him today and he was immediately inviting and warm and put us totally at ease. He showed us all kinds of letterpress’, tons of wooden lettering and teeny tiny metal type. He let us design a Salty not Sweet sign and helped us print it up and it turned out spectacular. I’m so in love with it I actually want to take my prints and put them in bed with me so I can hold them through the night.

Keith is working on putting together a once a month craft show in downtown Salem, which is a really cute area with bars, art, restaurants, and of course a fantastical letterpress studio. I will keep you posted on when he’s looking for vendors and what not.

If you’re looking from some beautiful printed material please contact The Cranky Pressman.

fellow crafters/fans/supporters-

check out the trunk show tab on this page for more info on salty’s newest venture!  trunk shows will highlight the works of multiple crafters/artists, but in a smaller, more cozy setting then a traditional craft show.  similar to a hosted home party, salty trunk shows will be run by a small group of local crafters in public locations, or hosted privately upon request.

we’re pretty sure nothing like this has hit the streets of c-town before, and we’re proud to keep bringing local handmade goods to the masses every & any way we can.

VENDORS- we need you!  email candra@candrasquire.com if you are interested in participating.  great exposure for your works!

FANS- stay tuned!  we’ll update with details as we solidify time/place for our first show.

ALL- shop & sell at salty trunk shows!  be a part of this growing crafter’s community while supporting local arts & crafts!

Martha Wozniak of BRadleyBB is in Cleveland Magazine this month! She got Best Bobby Pins in CLE but she does more than just bobby pins. She makes earrings, bracelets, magnets and necklaces too. My friend bought some BRadley earrings at the Salty show and loves them! Check her out on her ETSY or ARTICLE.

I wanted to share with you guys some awesome indie craft finds. It seems like everyone these days is struggling and it’s important to support each other and locally made products because if we don’t we are supporting the man. Damn the man.

Squeaky Queen has handcrafted soaps and scents, but not just your normal run of the mill type stuff.

Blood SoapThis is Blood Soap!

This opaque soap is the color of fresh blood. The scent fits the theme, blending deep sandalwood, musk, honey, and the bright spice of cloves. The result is an earthy, spicy mix with a definite sweet and sticky, animalistic twist.

She has all kinds of other really fun soaps from Sugared Lime to Fetish Leather!  You can find her here:

Birdcage Bohemia makes jewelry and recreates vintage pieces.

BircdcageThis is a birdcage necklace with a dragonfly. How cute is that??

You can find her here:

There are so many insanely awesome people in Cleveland alone that could make everything anyone would ever need. Or not even know they need until they see it.

If you have something you’d like to see featured on the blog let me know!
